Before starting I would like to clarify that this is based on personal experience and may or may not apply to the reader.
During my trips I spent the time listening to an audiobook, its way nicer than hearing the Jet engine noise 😉 . In Jan-Feb of 2018, I had several trips within three weeks from Detroit, San Francisco, LasVegas and NewYork city, I know that long without going home in between.
During the Trip from Detroit to Sanfacisco while listening to one of the audiobooks about startup & business skills in the last section the talk was about startup leaders & employees & how it is difficult to delegate tasks and work to them.
I’m one of those people who started their own business, and during the process with the all effort dedicated to bootstrap, reduce costs & expenses. The problem for me was delegating tasks and subprojects to freelancers or sub-contractors without interfering in every single detail.
To my bad luck 😐 this also came back home with me at the end of the day. I started asking my wifi to do something or delegating some of the Home planning tasks and ends up starting to Work on the task before even giving her time to work on it. That made her very uncomfortable and even feeling untrusted. At the same time, she was part of my latest startup venture. I think you can imagine her feeling at this point.
It took me more than four months to find a way to delegate task and work and all credit goes to my dear wife for keeping up with me during that time. These are my steps:
- Started with few steps for Work tasks:
- List all task to simple PM system
- Categorize tasks under skill sets Definition.
- Define Skills set & match to team members.
- Askes team members to Red flags you once you overstep.
- Become a reminder instead of replacer I just Keep following up.
- Relax and Believe in your team. assuming you selected the best to Joins you the bus ride.
- list your strength & weaknesses, and get people to compliant the weakness. this way you will have more reasons to Believe in them.
